With six comedy specials, multiple big-screen credits, and a BET series, Gary Owen’s career is quite rich.
What sort of money do you suppose an actor/comedian like him can make?
That’s exactly the question I asked myself a while ago. And the news about his messy (and very public) divorce only made me more curious.
Here’s what I found out about Gary Owen’s net worth!

5 Facts About Gary Owen’s Earnings, Assets, and Expenses
It’s pretty hard to break down the comedian’s net worth. But I have some fun facts to help you put things into perspective!
1. He Has a Couple of Residences and Recently Bought His First Flip Home
There’s no way to know for sure how much of Owen’s income went into real estate. However, I do know he has had a few residences over the years.
During his divorce from Kenya Duke, it came to light that the comedian has a home in Ohio and another in California. That’s probably one reason the proceedings got complicated. He filed for divorce in one state without telling her.
He actually made a point of mentioning that he filed first (which would mean that he left his wife, not the opposite) in his Breakfast Club interview.
Those two residences aside, the comedian also bought a rundown house in Atlanta to flip later.
2. He Made Minimum Wage While Working With Steve Harvey
The “Think Like a Man” actor worked briefly on Steve Harvey’s talk show but wasn’t exactly satisfied with the experience. Owen claims he was given a small room on the set and was paid the SAG minimum.
He could do one day’s worth of “Hip Hop Squares” and make four times the money he’d earn in two weeks with Harvey.
3. His Ex-Wife Asked for an Alimony of $44,000 a Month

Ending almost 20 years of marriage wasn’t the main cause of Kenya Duke’s heartache. Instead, it was the money troubles.
Duke had quit her job long ago to take care of the domestic aspect while Owen worked. So, she was in serious trouble when they split. She claims her ex-husband stopped making deposits, so she had to file for support.
And the amount she was asking for was $44,000 a month plus a lump sum of $88,000!
To Duke, this seemed like a reasonable amount because:
- It’s the family’s usual household expense
- It’s nothing compared to Owen’s monthly income, which she claims is somewhere between $200,000 and $400,000
Owen, however, thought it was too much and made a joke about it in a stand-up gig. He also said that if the roles were reversed, he wouldn’t ask for that much. Some fans didn’t buy it, though.
4. Kevin Hart Offered to Help Him Out With Divorce
Apparently, Hart is quite a generous friend—so much so that he offered to help Owen with the financial aspects of the divorce proceedings.
Side Note: Kevin Hart’s own divorce cost him a lump sum of $175,000.
5. He Doesn’t Want to Disclose the Amount in His Divorce Settlement

The comedian says he did settle with his ex-wife. For how much? No one knows.
Gary Owen doesn’t want to disclose the details of the settlement. Yet, he claims that if he did, people would stop calling him a deadbeat father.
Side Note: Kenya Duke had one son, Emilio, before meeting Gary, with whom she had two more children, Austin and Kennedy. After their divorce, caused by infidelity, Gary became estranged from his adult children for nearly three years. Recently, he welcomed twins with Briana Johnson, who has an older daughter, Reign. Gary now has six children.
Final Thoughts
Gary Owen’s net worth is about $4 million. So, with all things considered, do you think Kenya Duke’s alimony request is fair?
